August 12-14, 2011
The Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show is Maine's only in-water boat and home show to feature the state's finest artists, architects, boatbuilders, craftsmen, designers, furniture makers, marine gear vendors, and musicians. A "innovation" area will explore sustainable energy sources and building practices, energy audits, and sustainability.
The theme of the show, Tradition Shapes Innovation(tm), provides a lens through which to consider the trademark qualities of Maine-built products--classic, timeless designs that are durable, practical, and beautiful--as well as the guiding principles of resourcefulness and ingenuity that have made Maine craftspeople leaders in forward-thinking innovation.
The focus for 2011 will be on coastal life circa 1936 from industry and enterprise to art, music, film and fashion, inspired in part by 75th anniversaries of both the Penobscot Marine Museum and the Maine Windjammer Fleet. See vintage cars, antique canoes and ice boats, classic sail and powerboats of the time, plus films from Northeast Historic Film and other local historians.
There'll be live music, a marine activities area for the kids, fine Maine food, live demonstrations, and the zany the running of the 9th Annual World Championship Boatyard Dog(r) Trials (Sunday at 10:30).
Admission: $12 adults, under 12 free. Gates open at 10 a.m. daily. Located at Harbor and Buoy parks in Rockland, Maine.
No pets allowed. (Only pre-qualified entrants are allowed on the show grounds, Sunday morning only.)
Now in its ninth year, the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show is produced by Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine.
